Royal Belfast Golf Club

Holywood · County Down · BT18 0BP

Northern Ireland

Royal Belfast Golf Club lies in Holywood, County Down, and was designed by H.S. Colt, the renowned English architect who shaped courses across Britain and Ireland. The 18-hole course opened in 1881 and plays to par 70. Colt's design work at Royal Belfast reflects the careful strategic bunkering and green complexes that characterised his finest commissions during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

The club's location on the outskirts of Belfast, accessible via Station Road, has made it a longstanding fixture in Irish golf. Established when golf was still establishing itself as a serious sport in Ulster, Royal Belfast counts among the oldest clubs on the island and retains the architectural imprint of its original designer.
