Accessibility Statement
Last updated: June 1, 2026
Golf Venues is committed to making golfvenues.co.uk accessible to as many people as possible, including those who rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers, keyboard navigation, or screen magnification. Accessibility is an ongoing effort, and we treat it as part of building a quality product — not an afterthought.
Conformance status
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. Based on our own testing, the site substantially conforms to this standard: it currently passes automated accessibility checks with no detected errors, though some areas rely on third-party components that we do not fully control (see Known limitations below).
What we do to keep the site accessible
- Semantic, structured HTML — proper headings, landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer), and lists so content is navigable by assistive technology.
- Keyboard accessible — interactive elements can be reached and operated without a mouse, with visible focus styling, and focused elements are never hidden behind the sticky header.
- Labelled forms and controls — every input has an associated label or accessible name, and icon-only buttons carry descriptive labels. The site search uses a standard autocomplete (combobox) pattern.
- Announced updates — dynamic changes such as search results, filtering, "no matches", and form validation are announced to screen readers through ARIA live regions.
- Sufficient colour contrast — body text meets the WCAG AA 4.5:1 contrast minimum against its background.
- Responsive and zoom-friendly — the layout adapts to small screens and remains usable when text is enlarged.
- Meaningful alternatives — informative images carry alternative text; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology so they don't add noise.
- Reduced-motion respect — non-essential animation is kept subtle and decorative.
Known limitations
Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible:
- Interactive maps — maps on location pages are a visual supplement powered by a third-party mapping library. Because the same clubs are always available as accessible text on the same page (the club list, or the club's address), the maps are deliberately hidden from screen readers and removed from the keyboard tab order — so assistive-technology users get the information from the accessible list rather than a hard-to-operate map widget.
- Dynamic content — interactive features update the page with JavaScript and announce changes via live regions, but exact behaviour can still vary across different browser and screen-reader combinations.
- User-generated and third-party content — we cannot guarantee the accessibility of content submitted by users or served by external providers (e.g. embedded media).
We are actively working to reduce these limitations over time.
How we test
We assess accessibility using a combination of automated tooling (including WAVE, axe, and Lighthouse) and manual checks such as keyboard-only navigation. This is a self-evaluation; we have not yet commissioned an independent third-party audit.

Technical information
This site is built with standard web technologies — HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — and is designed to be compatible with current versions of major browsers and assistive technologies. Accessibility relies on these technologies being supported and enabled in your browser.
