Ferndown Golf Club lies in Dorset, south of Ringwood, where Harold Hilton designed The Old Course in 1913. This 18-hole heathland layout plays to par 71 and reflects the character typical of the Hampshire-Dorset border region, where open sandy terrain and heather provide the natural framework for play. Hilton's design work here followed his championship-winning career and course designs across Britain, bringing his understanding of strategic bunkering and natural contours to the course.
The club sits on established heathland and has maintained its original routing for over a century. The surrounding landscape and soil composition are characteristic of the New Forest fringe, offering the firm, fast conditions associated with heathland courses in southern England.
